Scenery Oil on canvas 34.5 x 25 cm No frame. Signed by listed artist
Carl Forup (1883-1939) is a well-listed artist. He was encouraged by Hans Agersnap to become a painter and went after some years of preparation to the Academy of Fine Art. In 1910 he became a student of Henri Matisse in Paris. He exhibited widely in Denmark at Charlottenborg, The Deer Park group, the Young Artist's exhibition and in the Association of Art. After his death a one-man memorial exhibition was made of his works in Charlottenborg. Horsens and Vejle museum have obtained works of him. In the years around the first world war he often chose Polish fieldworkers as motif. Later he changed to the Italian style folk life paintings, often with groups in idyllic landscapes. He was a very popular painter of his time.
